SYRIAN KURD ENCOUNTERS DEATH UNDER TORTURE

E-mail Print PDF

We at the Canadian-Kurdish Association for Human Rights, INC. are expressing our strong disapproval of the use of "torture" that lead to the "death" of Syrian Kurdish citizen, from Ain Arab/Kobani, twenty-seven (27) year old, Hanan Abdelkader Mahmoud in an Air Force Intelligence interrogation center in Damascus, Syria.

Hanan Abdelkader Mahmoud was arrested on May 15, 2010 and his body was not handed over to his Family until June 28, 2010.  The Family found out that their Son's death had occurred a few days after his arrest, under torture while in the Agency's detention center in Damascus.  The authorities delayed the extradition of his body and placed it in a refrigerator in order to remove the effects of his "torture".  Hanan Abdelkader Mahmoud was a loving Father and Husband to his wife and child.

The Canadian-Kurdish Association for Human Rights, INC. wish to extend our solemn heartfelt condolences to the entire Family of Hanan Abdelkader Mahmoud.

We at CKAHR, INC., also wish to denounce and in the strongest terms, such savage practices by the Syrian Security Forces and demand an independent investigation into the incident of Hanan Abdelkader Mahmoud's death.  We must bring all those responsible for his death to justice by implementing an independent judiciary committee.  His Family should also be compensated for his unnecessary death and their future without him.

Moreover, the International community must order the Syrian Authority to STOP the practice of torture "immediately" and let them respect the articles of the "constitution" and "treaties" of the United Nations.
